Best Troop of the 1960’s

Summer camp to be held at Camp Fawcett in June 2013 prompted two Camp Fawcett alumni, being Craig Neumeyer and Russell Tidwell to dig through their archives and send us the three below pieces of information and comments. The articles were published somewhere around 1961-1966.

Troop 237 of Del Rio was a consecutive winner of the ‘Best Troop’ at Camp Fawcett during summer camps in the 1960’s. The first photo mentions “Troop 237 won first place award for the fourth consecutive year” but these egotistical Camp Fawcett Alumni remembers it to be consecutive for near 10 years – they are still looking for old newspaper clippings to verify this.

To wit they ask a question: What Troop will be the Best Troop at Camp Fawcett summer camp this year? (Provided there is such a category as there was in decades past)

It reads: Members of Winning Troop Larry Herrington, Dale Dodson, Craig Neumeyer and Russell Tidwell, right, are members of Boy Scout Troop 237 that won first place Camp Fawcett award for the fourth consecutive year at the camping session that ended Wednesday.

Boy Scout Troop 237 Winners - Left to right are the assistant Scout Master, Billy Titt (Conner), with troop members Tommy Nelson, Brad Bradley and J. L. Love of the group that won first place Camp Fawcett Award.
